WINSTON-SALEM—The Dash lost their third in a row Friday, falling to Salem 13-8. Winston was all but buried by the fifth, when Dane Dunning exited after allowing eight runs on
nine hits. Zach Thompson couldn’t provide much relief, departing two innings,
five runs, and ten hits later. Josh Ockimey, Víctor Acosta, Austin Rei, and Jeremy
Rivera homered for the Red Sox. Rei’s was the backbreaker, a three-run shot in the
fourth breaking a 2-2 impasse. The visitors tallied 21 hits and spread them
liberally throughout the lineup. Rivera and Jordan Betts had four apiece, Ockimey
and José Sermo each collecting three.
Mike Shawaryn went five plus, striking out six and allowing only solo homers to
Zack Collins and Jameson Fisher. The Dash scored two in the seventh against
Austin Glorius on a bases-loaded walk and a wild pitch, two in the eighth on Matt
Rose’s homer off Marc Brakeman, and then two in the ninth to put a little eyewash
on the final score. Yeyson Yrizarri’s RBI knock was the only hard-hit ball in a
rally spearheaded by two errors and an infield single by Luis Basabe. Eloy Jiménez
was pinch-hit for in the sixth after fouling a ball off his foot in the fourth. The
series continues Saturday at 6:30 and concludes with a 2PM Sunday matinee.
